Data show that the degree of tolerance towards groups at risk of social exclusion and discrimination in Latvia remains among the lowest in the EU. In the Social Progress Index, which looks at various dimensions of human development and considers 52 indicators in total, Latvia ranks 33rd among the world's countries. The lowest scores for Latvia are in the tolerance and inclusion dimension, where Latvia ranks 69th, indicating that the level of tolerance is low and that discrimination against persons and groups at risk of social exclusion is still strong.
Objective of the activity
In order to promote dialogue with Latvian society and to address a wide target audience on the principles of non-discrimination and to foster tolerance and social cohesion, coherent and regular implementation of public awareness and information activities is necessary. A public awareness-raising campaign based on the Strategy should raise awareness of discrimination among different groups of society, promote tolerance and social cohesion among different groups of people at risk of discrimination, and raise awareness of the importance of social inclusion and access to services for target groups, including at the regional level.
Providing public awareness and information measures
Based on the developed strategy, a public awareness-raising campaign will be developed to raise awareness of discrimination among different groups of society, to promote tolerance and social cohesion among different groups of persons at risk of discrimination, and to raise awareness of the importance of social inclusion and access to services for target groups, including at the regional level.
